Kalimpong – The Buddha Purnima or Buddha’s Birthday on the full moon day in May, was organised under South Asia Buddhist Association, the charitable trust of H.H. the 17th Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje.
Together, the students of Shri Diwakar Acadamy as well as the students of Karmapa Center of Education held a traditional march through Kalimpong, the small provincial town at the foothills of the Himalayas. Headed by a Buddha statue, the Buddha’s scriptures were carried on everyone’s shoulders through the town.
It was the first Buddha Purnima where KCE students actively participated. Certainly a key moment for them, as it was the first time they carried the Buddha’s scriptures in public as a symbol of the continuation of the Buddha’s Teachings.
After the procession, a joint lunch was served at Shri Diwarkar Academy.
