The Kagyu Monlam 2022

December 30, 2022

We are happy to share with you some glimpses of the Kagyu Monlam Chenmo, which was held at the Karmapa Center of Education from 14 to 20 December 2022.

The annual Monlam marks the end of our school year, after which a month-long holiday period begins. Our entire KCE team of monks, teachers and educators participate in the week-long prayers, which is also held in all monasteries and Buddhist centres around the globe under the guidance of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa. The Monlam unites our worldwide network of the Buddhist Sangha even though we may be physically separated.

The KCE’s English-Tibetan curriculum is unique in its form and was designed by the Karmapa himself. It incorporates Buddhist education and modern schooling equally for boys and girls.

Our students learn the Tibetan language from as early as the age of 5 and are gradually introduced to the monastic rituals: reading the Dharma texts and performing the various pujas.

At the same time, our students follow the Indian ICSE school curriculum from kindergarten to 10th and 12th grade.

We also welcome friends from our Buddhist Sanghas to visit and spend some time with us. KCE has guest rooms with access to our Buddhist library and lush flowering garden in the beautiful surroundings of the Kalimpong mountains.
