Karmapa Center of Education (KCE), a Buddhist model school founded by Thaye Dorje, H.H. the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa

Celebration of
Karmapa’s birthday

June 8, 2019

The 6th of May is a special day in the school calendar of the Karmapa Center of Education. As the birthday of our patron, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, the day offers an opportunity for students to become more aware of the value of the presence of the Buddha’s teachings in the form of authentic teachers. These teachers help ensure the continuation of the Buddha dharma in our time.

The day started at 5.30 am with a Sang Puja (smoke offering) and prayers to Buddha Shakyamuni and the 16 Arhats. This was followed by long life prayers for Karmapa, and traditional white scarf offerings (Tibetan: Kataks) in the temple.

The program continued at the beautiful Teesta river, with a live fish release.

The afternoon ended with a joyful riverside picnic with music, cake and games.
